The winter and fall are incredible times to visit Tobermory. The summer crowds have gone home and you have the trails all to yourself. All of our cottages are fully insulated and heated via forced air for four season comfort. The cottages and hot tub are offered year round and make a perfect base of operations for cross country skiing and snow shoeing in the national park. The hike to the Grotto to see the ice formations on Georgian Bay are not to be missed.
The main necessities in Tobermory are open year round including the grocery store, liquor store, hardware, gas station, the National Park and Tobermory Brewing Company. OK, TBC is not a necessity... or is it.
The best option for winter equipment rentals is in Hepworth at Suntrail Sports.
The best places for cross country skiing and snowshoeing are:
In the winter the road to Cyprus Lake is maintain only to the park office. Park there and then ski into the Grotto (1.5 km of road and 1.5 km of easy trail via the Georgian Bay Trail).
The Emmett Lake Road is not maintained in the winter so this is another great skiing option.
Road to Cabot Head Light House
This road is similarly not maintained in the winter. Accessed through Dyers Bay.
Lindsay Tract Trails
Fantastic mountain biking in the summer, cross country ski in the winter.
